You’ll have your curiosity piqued on various topics as I chat with wonderful guests and bring you solo bite-sized episodes.

I’m here for service-based business owners and entrepreneurs like you, to help you increase your self-care and compassion, change your relationship with yourself and your business, and elevate your business to a new level so you can live the full and meaningful life you desire.

So, let’s get started

Hi, and welcome back to another episode.

I recently kicked off my book tour with an event at the Sunshine Coast. It was so much fun, and if you were there, thank you so much for coming to help me celebrate and joining in with our activities.

One of the things I invited people to do was contribute to a “wisdom wall”. I put up a piece of card with some post-it notes and a simple question. I wanted to share that question and the answers with you today because I think they are so helpful. Part of the reason for doing this was so people could reflect on the question themselves and share their answers for others to read. When we realise what others find helpful, we can try those things ourselves—though it’s important to remember that what works for one person might not work for you.

So, here is the question: What are some small or big ways that you can prioritise you, and take care of your future self?

Here are some of the beautiful, honest answers from that wall:

  • Checking in with myself, saying no when I’m depleted, and yes when things light me up.

  • Continuing to engage in my morning routine of self-journaling, movement, and meditation.

  • Understanding that this is an ongoing process. Keep checking in: “What do I need right now?”.

  • Attend yoga and Pilates every week. It’s good for you, and you never regret it.

  • Enjoying my pottery sessions each Saturday with beautiful women.

  • Being more mindful. Breathe. Love me.

  • Invest in the time I need for exercise and meditation.

  • Drink my tea before it’s cold each day. (I wonder how many mums can relate to that one!)

  • Make time to surf more and work on my health.

  • Make time for the things that matter to me, fill up my cup, and stick to the time.

I love that last point about sticking to the time. We can have the best intentions, but then we don’t prioritise them. Something else comes up, and we put that ahead of what we actually wanted to do. It isn’t just about finding ways to care for ourselves, but figuring out how we are actually going to remember and prioritise those things when life gets busy.

Sometimes it helps to have tiny things to prioritise so it’s easier to say, “Yes, I’m busy, but I have two minutes for this”. For me, that is taking slow, soothing breaths. That could literally be ten breaths, and nothing needs to get in the way of that.

A few more reflections from the wall:

  • Stop feeling guilty for resting when I need to. To become so comfortable doing this that I no longer feel anxious.

  • I need to take more time to take care of me. Take the time.

The time is there, but we often give it to someone or something else that isn’t about our health and well-being. We need to lean into how much better we feel—and how much more space and compassion we have for our families—when we actually take that time for ourselves.

I hope this has been helpful. I’ll be popping a picture of the finished wisdom wall on my Instagram (@drhayleydquinn), so come and follow along there. I’ll be doing similar activities at my upcoming events in Melbourne and Sydney.

If you haven’t got a copy of the book yet, you can find the link in the show notes to buy it directly or via online retailers. Also, keep an eye out for the Time to Thrive in-person retreat. It’s a small, intimate group of just six guests, and the content will be curated specifically for those in the room.
