So, let’s get started
Hi! And welcome to another episode and the season finale of Season 7. I can’t believe we’re here already. I say that at the end of every season.
I’ve been going for almost 4 years, and I know that some of you have been listening from the start, and I really appreciate that and some of you joined along the way, and some of you, then this may be your 1st episode. I really appreciate you all tuning in and allowing me to take up some of your time and hopefully give you some helpful and nurturing information.
So we’re at Episode 84. My gosh. We’re now at weekly episodes. I have previously done fortnightly, and then, for a little period of time, I changed it to monthly to suit where I was at with my own busyness, and taking care of my health, etc. Then went back to fortnightly, and now decided to see what weekly would feel like, and whilst it has felt like a little bit more pressure, because I’ve got to come up with content every week and I’m doing less guest episodes.
It’s gone. Okay. I feel like I’ve managed it. So I’m going to do weekly for season 8 as well. But I’m going to continually monitor whether weekly is something that I can sustain, and if you have been listening in for a while or a long time, you’ll know that I’m all about that. If something is not achievable without compromising my health than
I’m not going to be doing it like if I am getting to the point that I’m too busy. I‘m feeling too overwhelmed. It’s creating stress.
And a little bit of stress is okay. A little bit of stress is normal in life and can be helpful in terms of motivating us.
But if it’s causing too much stress, then I am going to drop it back to perhaps fortnightly again. But at the moment I feel like it’s going well and I’m enjoying it. So let’s keep doing weekly.
And one of the things that is, I guess motivating for me is knowing that if I do this weekly, I’ll get to 100 episodes this year, and that will be really exciting.
I never even thought. I’d have a podcast so the thought of having 100 episodes out there is really exciting for me.
I will be taking a break at the end of this episode and be back with you in 5 weeks time.
Because again, if you, if you know me at all, you know that I really value rest and the importance of taking breaks.
So what I would say is, follow me on social media, or get on the mailing list, and you can do that through the show notes. There’ll be a link to get on the mailing list, because we will be sharing some of my favorite and listener favorite episodes during that 5 weeks, and if you’re fairly new to the podcast there’s plenty of episodes as well for you to be catching up on in that break. But I do take a break. This is why I do the podcast in seasons.
And I think it can be really helpful for us to think about any major projects that we’re doing, that we do them in batches or seasons, or whatever it is that you like to call it.
Because for me, I then know, okay, I’ve got to get 12 episodes done normally. About 9 of those are solo episodes and I’ve got to find myself 3 guests, which isn’t hard. I’ve got a whole list of people who want to be guests on the podcast
and people that I still want to reach out to and see if they will be a guest on the podcast but again, let me know, is there anyone particular that you would love to hear me interview? I really do love interviewing other people. So if you’ve got somebody in mind.
Send me a message, and I’ll reach out to them. You never know who we might get.
And also, if there’s a particular topic that you would like to hear about. Now, I’m a former clinical psychologist. So I have a lot of experience and knowledge in issues around mental health.
I have done a lot of training, and I’ve trained other people in compassion focused therapy, compassion is a big passion of mine. So if there’s any particular topics around that.
Or if there’s particular things you want to know about running a business, just let me know any topics, and if there’s something that I feel is suitable for the podcast then I’d happily do an episode for you and give you a shout out, if it’s an episode that you’ve requested as well.
So what do I want to talk about today? I guess it was really just this excitement about being at the end of another season. I’ve done 7 seasons but also how I have managed some of that.
Because I think this could be helpful in terms of whether you’ve got your own podcast or whether you’ve got projects in your business, or whether there’s something in your personal life that you’re wanting to manage.
So I have kind of reflected on some of the things that have made this possible for me particularly given that it’s been almost 4 years as well, and
I guess the 1st thing that I would say, is, I really enjoy doing this.
This is something I get joy from.
I don’t dread it sometimes, if I’ve left it a little bit late for my deadline to get my episodes recorded. I might feel a bit of stress, but I know that once I’m doing it I’m going to enjoy it.
So, I think, finding something that you really enjoy, perhaps are passionate about. But I don’t think you have to be passionate about everything that you do.
If you are passionate. I think it’s going to help.
So finding something that you enjoy or or passionate about, and then really thinking about.
How am I going to do this in a way that works for me, and I spoke about this just earlier in the episode about when I had it fortnightly. Then I moved to monthly. Then I moved to Fortnightly, and now I’m doing it weekly. Some of the stuff for me for weekly is strategic.
I know from speaking to other people that I’m more likely going to get more consistent downloads of the podcast if it drops weekly. Now, I’m going to test that for myself as well, I’m actually going to say, does that actually help with listenership?
If I’m doing this more regularly and like, I said before, I’m also going to keep monitoring whether this is something that I can do in a way that is sustainable for me.
So I think, really acknowledging for yourself how you best work.
What you enjoy doing, what you don’t enjoy doing and doing things in a way that suit you.
Now using my podcast as an example, I love doing the recording of the podcast I really love interviewing guests.
I love making connections with other people reaching out to see if they want to be on the podcast or if they’ve contacted me, having those conversations around, whether they’re going to be a good fit for the podcast but what I don’t enjoy doing is editing
or uploading it to my website and all the places it needs to be.
So I have the amazing Nyssa, who does the editing of my podcast, thank you. Nyssa and I have the amazing Alyana who does all the other backend things. Thank you so much. Alyana which leaves me to do the parts of this project that I really love.
Which means I’m more likely going to do it and I’m more likely going to be able to do it for longer.
I mean, who knows how long I’ll do the podcast for? But as it stands at the moment, I can’t see me not doing it, because I’m just really enjoying it and my belief is it’s helpful for people.
Now, some of that is me hoping and believing it’s helpful, and some of that is because I get messages from people letting me know it’s helpful.
And trust me when you send me those messages.
Honestly, it means the world to me.
It really really does, because you just don’t know who’s listening. You just don’t know how things are landing. So when I get a message letting me know that a particular episode, or something particular within an episode was helpful.
It lights me up, and it helps motivate me to keep doing this, so please feel free to contact me.
My dms are always open.
I have boundaries around when I reply to people, but I welcome people to message me and email me whenever they like.
And I love hearing from people.
So if you’ve got a thought about the podcast whether it’s something, you’d like to hear whether it’s a guest you’d like to hear, or whether it’s some feedback Good, bad, or indifferent. I’m open to it all because feedback helps us improve what we do right?
So I think, find something you enjoy.
Find a way that you can do it in a way that is sustainable for you, and that works for you and that piece around outsourcing some of those tasks to other people or automating things is again really important.
Because we’re not skilled at everything. We don’t need to be skilled at everything. We can’t possibly be skilled at everything right. But we can put a lot of pressure on ourselves to have to do it all
I also get, if you’re just starting out in your business, that finding other people to do things can be expensive and that might not be in your budget.
But if you can really look and think, are there areas where I’m spending in my business that I could actually pull back on so that I can invest in somebody to help me with this particular project. That’s important to me or as soon as I can.
I’m gonna get somebody to help me with this. These are the things that are going to help you stay on track with what you want to do.
The other thing is, there’s some really great information out there. There’s some really great groups where and I think you have to be a little bit choosy, a little bit picky about the groups you’re in, because some of them
I find some of them aren’t as great and can kind of have you spending a lot of time in groups reading stuff. That’s really not that helpful for you. But I think when you can find the right groups, you can gain some really great information from your peers and colleagues, so don’t underestimate that as well and you may have people in your life that you can set some of these groups up with. I have some amazing women in my life, and we’ve set up like there’s a couple of different groups of us, and we’ve set up some little mini masterminds and I also have a couple of people who I do some co-working sessions with.
and we share ideas and help each other out in those as well.
So I think there’s ways to do this that don’t always cost money.
And then there’s ways to do this that are worth investing the money to get people who are really skilled
like for me. I use Nyssa because I know she’s really good at editing and for me it would take so long and I would get so frustrated with myself, and I just wouldn’t enjoy it. So chances are I would stop doing the podcast
So if you listen to the episode last week I spoke a lot about. There’s no right or wrong way and I want you to remember that again. There’s no right or wrong way for you to be doing business or life.
It’s about finding the way that works for you.
I’d love to know what you’re working on.
Send me a message.
If you send me a message I’ll share an idea with you. If there’s something I can see about how you’d do it differently. Just as a way of of giving back. So feel free to do that. And yeah, any messages I receive before the start of season 8.
If you’re struggling with an idea, and you just want a little bit of a creative brainstorm. Then that’s my invitation to you. There you go. I just came up with that. Then that’s my invitation to you. Send me an email. Hello@DrHayleydquinn.com.
Tell me what the problem is that you’re working on, and I will come up with one brainstorm idea to feed back to you, and you can take it or leave it. You might think it’s great. You might think it’s a load of rubbish. And that’s totally fine.
It’s been an absolute pleasure doing the podcast, since I think I think we started in July 2021, and I have interviewed some amazing people, and no doubt will continue to interview some amazing people.
And I’ve really enjoyed bringing you the solo episodes as well and I’m really enjoying bringing these shorter, bite-sized episodes, and I might trial as well next season to do some really bite-sized episodes with just perhaps one thing for you to think about, or a question to ask yourself. I’ll give that some more thought over the break.
And we’ll see what season 8 is going to look like. I’ve already got 2 amazing guests lined up.
One of them is already recorded, the other one I’ll be recording in just under 2 weeks.
So that’s the other thing. Actually, I forgot to mention that is, if you can batch some of the work you’re doing. no matter what the project, whether it’s getting your social media.
It does. Edwards will already be recorded before I set up season 8 feels fantastic, and what I’ll probably do is record the 1st one or 2 season episodes solo episodes as well.
Because then I actually get to have a much longer break from the podcast. So it’s those little ways of how do you hack ways of giving yourself more time and space and still having the stuff out in the world that you need to have out in the world.
Anyway. That’s it, for today. I hope it’s been really helpful. I hope you’ve loved the season, and that you’re looking forward to. Season 8 as much as I am. Go well, and go gently with yourself, and I’ll see you in season. 8 bye.
Thanks for sharing this time with me today, I hope it’s been helpful and supportive.
