Hi and welcome to another episode and the final episode for season four. It seems like yesterday when I started the podcast and now I’m wrapping up our fourth season!!
Before we head into this final episode for the year, I want to invite you to jump onto my waiting list for my upcoming Welcome to Self®: Time to Thrive group coaching program. The women who have already been through the program had such great things to say about it and I’d love you to come and join me so you too can thrive whilst running your business.
You can find a link to the waiting list in the show notes and on my website drhayleydquinn.com/coaching
Now let’s get into the episode.
As we approach the end of the year, it can be a good time to reflect on your goals.
The goals that you had for this year and whether you met them.
These could be professional or personal goals.
If you did meet them, congratulations!
Now here’s a question for you, how did you celebrate meeting your goal or goals?
How often do you actually stop and take time to celebrate your achievements along the way?
In my FB group Welcome to Self®: Compassionate Support for Women Business Owners we put up a celebration post every Friday and I notice it doesn’t get a lot of comments. Stopping and celebrating ourselves can be challenging, it can fall by the wayside, it doesn’t get prioritised and yet it can be such a motivating force once we do it regularly.
So many women I work with never used to celebrate themselves along the way, but I can assure you once they start working with me, they do! I believe it is such an important thing for us to do.
If you didn’t meet your goals, please congratulate yourself for having some goals in the first place and remind yourself that we’re not always going to meet the goals we set for ourselves.
It can also be helpful to reflect on what got in the way for you or perhaps you set the goal aside because it didn’t fit for you and your business anymore.
If it is still a goal for you, what do you think might be helpful moving forward so you can meet that goal?
When thinking about the year ahead, what goals do you have for the new year?
Are you stretching yourself, not too much, but enough so you’re not sitting right in the middle of your comfort zone?
And how can you set your goals based on your values and what even is the difference between your goals and your values?
When we think about goals, these are things we can work towards and then tick off.
Like working towards a degree and then graduating, tick
Wanting to open a business and then welcoming your first client, tick
Wanting to climb Mt Everest and doing that, tick Not one of my goals and certainly not something I’ve achieved.
Values on the other hand are different, we don’t get to set them, meet them and tick them off.
Values are more the guiding lights in your life. They point to what is meaningful for you.
How you want to live your life, how you want to walk on the earth.
Remember when thinking about your values, they don’t have to be the same as other people. It’s not about trying to choose the “right” values, it’s reflecting on what matters to you, what feels meaningful to you, how you as the individual are wanting to live your life.
What type of person, business owner, employer, partner, parent, friend etc you want to be.
Often when explaining about values a pizza analogy is used. For example, you might love Hawaiian pizza and I might love roasted vegetable pizza. Your choice isn’t better or worse than mine and mine isn’t superior to yours, they are both just more fitting to who we are and what we like.
It’s the same with our values. Whilst we might share similar values, we don’t have to. We need to consider what matters to us as individuals.
The important thing about values is they can be a really great resource for us when trying to make valuable decisions in our business. They allow us to come back to a point that provides information that can guide our direction. They can help us feel confident that a particular decision will take us in the direction we actually want to be heading. They can also help us avoid something that wouldn’t be a great fit for us.
I invite you to take some time to think about your own values and then write them down somewhere so you can come back to them when you want to. Also holding in mind that as you grow and evolve throughout life and in your business your values can change too.
You might also want to spend some time thinking about the goals you have both personally and professionally for the new year.
I hope you have found this time together helpful, and I look forward to bringing you more episodes in the new year.
For now, it’s time for a break from all things podcast, in fact for me it’s time for a break from all things work related so I can rest, restore, have some fun and nourish and nurture myself and be back in the new year ready to go again!
I hope you’re able to factor in some time for rest, restoration and of course some fun over the end of the year and I will see you back here in podcast land in 2024!
